PTE Test scoring

PTE Academic is scored against the Global Scale of English, a granular score scale from 10–90. Students receive an overall score on this scale, which gives an accurate assessment of their English ability. The overall score in the PTE test ranges from 10-90 points. There is no passing PTE score, but top colleges and universities have a preference for an average 65-75 PTE score. The various sections in the PTE exam (listening, reading, speaking, and writing) are scored on a scale of 10 – 90 where 10 is the lowest, with increments of 1. While PTE tests are computer-based and machine-scored, human expert scorers are used to train the scoring engine on speaking and writing tasks by rating test taker responses to the overall score reported for performance on the entire test. The tables in the Appendix give an overview of how scores are assigned via the myPTE score assignment process.
